28 Nov: Lamplighter Festival in Todmorden

Lamplighter Festival is a magical winter night-time event in Todmorden, featuring a parade of community-made lanterns that culminates in a performance in Todmorden town centre where our mythical ‘Lamplighter’ puppet lantern lights a torch, symbolically guiding the community through the dark winter months.

Saturday 28th November 5.30pm – 9pm

3 Valley Vegans will have a market stall there in the afternoon and into the early evening.

Would you like to help on the stall?  If yes, please contact us.

For more information about Lamplighter see Lamplighter Festival on the Visit Calderdale website.

Pollination Street under threat, sign now to keep community space in Todmorden

Petitioning Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council

We, the undersigned, demand the immediate suspension of any move to sell the former health centre site on Rose Street/Pollination Street to McCarthy and Stone. The site has been designated for the use and benefit of the people of Todmorden

Pollination Street-petition

The site has been designated for the use and benefit of the people of Todmorden – not as a means of raising revenue for Calderdale Council.  We need this green space to celebrate nature and provide a very necessary resource for the community old and young to use. Without Pollination Street there is nowhere in the town centre to hold festivals and community events. Look on any sunny day and see the people enjoying this green space.

Share this petition with your friends and send a message from the people.

1 November: Let’s go for a walk

Sunset Stoodley PikeFrom Todmorden up to Gaddings Dam (there is a beach there), on to Stoodley Pike and then down to Hebden Bridge.  About 4 hours including a stop for lunch.  Anyone who wants to can then extend the walk back to Todmorden along the canal, making it a circular walk of about 5 to 6 hours.

Don’t forget to bring your lunch with you and maybe you might want to share some as long as it is vegan.  Walking boots and suitable clothing are essential.

Start off at 10.30 am outside The Bear in Todmorden (Rochdale Road) on Sunday 1st November (new date!).

Please note that there will be some steep gradients to climb.

EDIT: Here are some photos from the event, taken by Rob.

COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret

is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following an intrepid filmmaker as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organisations are too afraid to talk about it. As eye-opening as Blackfish and as inspiring as An Inconvenient Truth, this shocking yet humorous documentary reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet.
