A medium to hard walk through the varied & characterful hill side woods of Cragg Vale. Sturdy, ideally waterproof, walking boots will be required, a walking pole could be useful.

  • Terrain: Mixture of woodland paths, muddy tracks, stone paths, grassy muddy banks, steps- often uneven. Some very wet muddy areas.
  • Strenuousness: Several ascents & descents, can be slippy, muddy underfoot.
  • Dogs welcome: There are several stiles en route, the route passes through a couple of sheep fields.
  • Food & Drink: There will be a lunch stop at Dog bridge, a beautiful ancient stone clapper bridge crossing Turvin Brook, together with a couple of snack/drink stops en route.
Please only bring Vegan food & drinks for lunch and also ensure you also have plenty of water and energy giving snacks/fruits too.

For those not wanting to do the whole route, the 901 bus can be caught in Hebden Bridge or Mytholmroyd up to the Hinchcliffe Arms, which would reduce the walk by 3 miles/2 hours, joining the group just before the lunch stop. There is also the option of leaving the walk at that point and again at 3¾ miles after the the lunch stop, when we reach Cragg Vale road and pass a couple of bus stops for the 901.
The first half of the walk is more strenuous, though there are still several ascents/descents on the second half.

A 901 Bus Time Table is available.

27 March: Walk in Todmorden, Stoodley Pike, Cragg Vale

Georgina will lead a walk on Sunday 27th March over the tops to Cragg Vale.

We will meet at Todmorden library at 11.00am and go up Longfield Rd towards the Shepherds Rest, then take the path up the moor towards Stoodley Pike. Then through the woods and over the tops and down to Cragg Vale. This is about 7 to 8 miles.

The Dusty Miller has taken up its carpets due to flooding, so the flag floor is perfect for walkers boots!

We will come back to Tod on the bus.

If you have any questions, please email Georgina on georgina@beanhole.co.uk. As usual with 3 Valley Vegans events, we ask if you are bringing food to make sure it is vegan please, out of respect for the other people at the event and in line with the aims of the group. Thank you!
