Georgina will lead a walk on Sunday 27th March over the tops to Cragg Vale.
We will meet at Todmorden library at 11.00am and go up Longfield Rd towards the Shepherds Rest, then take the path up the moor towards Stoodley Pike. Then through the woods and over the tops and down to Cragg Vale. This is about 7 to 8 miles.
The Dusty Miller has taken up its carpets due to flooding, so the flag floor is perfect for walkers boots!
We will come back to Tod on the bus.
If you have any questions, please email Georgina on georgina@beanhole.co.uk. As usual with 3 Valley Vegans events, we ask if you are bringing food to make sure it is vegan please, out of respect for the other people at the event and in line with the aims of the group. Thank you!
A recent publication from The Vegan Society includes the following.
Next Monday the Climate Change Conference will begin in Paris. This is a historic event. After two decades of United Nations negotiation, world leaders will gather to reach a legally binding and universal agreement aiming to avoid catastrophic climate change.
In the vegan community we all know that the so-called ‘livestock’ sector is responsible for the suffering of millions of animals. But it has also become a huge contributor to climate change, threatening the lives of non-human and human animals.
However, our government has done very little or almost nothing to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of this sector.
We cannot wait anymore. It is with this mind-set that we recently launched our new campaign, Grow Green. This initiative calls on the government to incentivise the UK production of plant protein crops for human consumption. How? By supporting UK farmers who are interested in transitioning from livestock farming to growing more local, sustainable crops. This could:
• Eliminate the suffering of millions of animals;
• Reduce the threat of climate change and food security;
• Encourage a more sustainable food chain in the UK and healthier food habits;
• Guarantee continuity of employment to young farmers in a climate change era.
We urgently need to ensure that your MP knows about Grow Green too. Please click on this link to send an email to your MP asking them to support this transition.
From Todmorden up to Gaddings Dam (there is a beach there), on to Stoodley Pike and then down to Hebden Bridge. About 4 hours including a stop for lunch. Anyone who wants to can then extend the walk back to Todmorden along the canal, making it a circular walk of about 5 to 6 hours.
Don’t forget to bring your lunch with you and maybe you might want to share some as long as it is vegan. Walking boots and suitable clothing are essential.
Start off at 10.30 am outside The Bear in Todmorden (Rochdale Road) on Sunday 1st November (new date!).
Please note that there will be some steep gradients to climb.
EDIT: Here are some photos from the event, taken by Rob.
We will be showing Cowspiracy (90 minutes approx) at Roomfield Baptist Church, Halifax Road, Todmorden, OL14 5BE on Friday 2nd October starting at 7:30pm.
Afterwards there will be a discussion about the film along with soup, bread and tea.
Donations to defray costs will be welcomed.
COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret
is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following an intrepid filmmaker as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organisations are too afraid to talk about it. As eye-opening as Blackfish and as inspiring as An Inconvenient Truth, this shocking yet humorous documentary reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet.
