21 May: The Big Veggie Brunch, Todmorden (part of National Vegetarian Week)

Poster for The Big Veggie Brunch, part of National Vegetarian WeekIn our biggest event yet, 3 Valley Vegans is part of National Vegetarian Week 2016! The theme is “Celebrate your food, stories and traditions”. With the help of Incredible Edible Todmorden, we are doing this by hosting a free community brunch at Pollination Street, the community green space next to Todmorden market.

Come and test out vegan versions of traditional breakfast and brunch items, plus a few original ones. Make up your own plate combination and tell us what you think of it — you might be surprised! Twitter icon#NVW16

There will also be a children’s activity, where we will provide paper plates for children to draw their favourite brunch item of the day on. These will be attached to a wall and collected as a local art piece.

How can I help?

To make this event a real success we’ll need plenty of help. We need people to set up (from 9 am at least) and to pack away (from 2 pm)
We need people prepared to cook and hand out food, to work with the children, to give out info and generally to engage the public. If any of these tasks sounds like something you’d be able to help with, please email Hilary.

27 March: Walk in Todmorden, Stoodley Pike, Cragg Vale

Georgina will lead a walk on Sunday 27th March over the tops to Cragg Vale.

We will meet at Todmorden library at 11.00am and go up Longfield Rd towards the Shepherds Rest, then take the path up the moor towards Stoodley Pike. Then through the woods and over the tops and down to Cragg Vale. This is about 7 to 8 miles.

The Dusty Miller has taken up its carpets due to flooding, so the flag floor is perfect for walkers boots!

We will come back to Tod on the bus.

If you have any questions, please email Georgina on georgina@beanhole.co.uk. As usual with 3 Valley Vegans events, we ask if you are bringing food to make sure it is vegan please, out of respect for the other people at the event and in line with the aims of the group. Thank you!

28 Nov: Lamplighter Festival in Todmorden

Lamplighter Festival is a magical winter night-time event in Todmorden, featuring a parade of community-made lanterns that culminates in a performance in Todmorden town centre where our mythical ‘Lamplighter’ puppet lantern lights a torch, symbolically guiding the community through the dark winter months.

Saturday 28th November 5.30pm – 9pm

3 Valley Vegans will have a market stall there in the afternoon and into the early evening.

Would you like to help on the stall?  If yes, please contact us.

For more information about Lamplighter see Lamplighter Festival on the Visit Calderdale website.

Pollination Street under threat, sign now to keep community space in Todmorden

Petitioning Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council

We, the undersigned, demand the immediate suspension of any move to sell the former health centre site on Rose Street/Pollination Street to McCarthy and Stone. The site has been designated for the use and benefit of the people of Todmorden

Pollination Street-petition

The site has been designated for the use and benefit of the people of Todmorden – not as a means of raising revenue for Calderdale Council.  We need this green space to celebrate nature and provide a very necessary resource for the community old and young to use. Without Pollination Street there is nowhere in the town centre to hold festivals and community events. Look on any sunny day and see the people enjoying this green space.

Share this petition with your friends and send a message from the people.

1 November: Let’s go for a walk

Sunset Stoodley PikeFrom Todmorden up to Gaddings Dam (there is a beach there), on to Stoodley Pike and then down to Hebden Bridge.  About 4 hours including a stop for lunch.  Anyone who wants to can then extend the walk back to Todmorden along the canal, making it a circular walk of about 5 to 6 hours.

Don’t forget to bring your lunch with you and maybe you might want to share some as long as it is vegan.  Walking boots and suitable clothing are essential.

Start off at 10.30 am outside The Bear in Todmorden (Rochdale Road) on Sunday 1st November (new date!).

Please note that there will be some steep gradients to climb.

EDIT: Here are some photos from the event, taken by Rob.
